Termite Species in West Maui: Why Identification Matters

Lahaina and the surrounding West Maui coast support three distinct termite species, and treating the wrong one wastes time while the actual colony keeps feeding. Knowing what you’re dealing with is the first step toward effective control.

Drywood Termites

Drywood termites infest wood directly, with no soil contact required. They colonize attic beams, wall studs, furniture, and wood framing throughout a structure. The clearest evidence is termite frass: small fecal pellets with six distinct sides that collect near infested wood in piles resembling fine sawdust or sand. Subterranean Termites
